![]() ![]() Since 1976, Valleyfair has invested over $96 million into the park, and today the park has over 75 attractions on 125 acres (51 ha) of land. Five years later, Cedar Fair Limited Partnership was formed as the parent company for Cedar Point and Valleyfair (the name being derived from the names of both flagship properties). In 1978 in an effort to increase investment capital for continued park expansion, Valleyfair was acquired by Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio. The carousel in the park came from Excelsior Amusement Park which was closed in 1973. Valleyfair opened on May 25, 1976, featuring 20 rides and attractions on 26 acres (110,000 m 2), with the roller coaster High Roller being the main attraction. Cedar Point and Valleyfair were the first two parks in the Cedar Fair chain (although Cedar Point Amusement Park originally opened in 1870) and a combination of the park names – "cedar" and "fair" – were used to name the company. Submitted plans indicate that the Skyscraper will be built at The Track Family Fun Parks’, Track #3, located near the center of the famed “Branson Strip”. At its highest point, the ride will “pause” giving its riders the opportunity to experience an amazing view of the famed Branson Strip and the beautiful Ozark Mountains surrounding Branson. This isn’t “your Grandmother’s Ferris wheel.” A similar ride at Fun Stop Family Action Parks in Pigeon Forge, TN describes the Skyscraper as “Tennessee’s only Ferris wheel on steroids.” While giving riders the sense of being on a roller coaster, the ride’s incredibly smooth as it spins backwards and forwards at speeds of 55 mph until its riders are over 140 feet high. Skyscraper isn’t your Grandmother’s Ferris wheel! Although still going through the City of Branson’s permitting process, reports from the city indicate that the Skyscraper, has seats located at the opposite ends of a “propeller blade” that rotates in a vertical plane to a height of over 150 feet at speeds up to 55 miles per hour. ![]() ![]() If things go as planned, The Track Family Fun Parks in Branson will be adding the “Skyscraper ” described as a Ferris wheel on steroids, to its repertoire of the exciting rides and fun things they offer their guests in 2019.
